Job Description

The HVAC Installation Technician will perform the duties normally required in the installation of HVAC systems. The HVAC Installation Technician may also be called upon to perform other duties normally required in the HVAC service trade.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install commercial HVAC systems and ducting. This includes new installation and remodel/replacement of existing systems.
  • Install chillers and boilers and piping of these systems.
  • Work with a construction crew on all installations/remodels, and work within the construction schedules agreed upon.
  • Inspect and operate air conditioning units and machinery to determine that all are functioning properly.
  • Read thermometers and gauges; records readings.
  • Make adjustments to thermostatic controls and blowers.
  • Take responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of paperwork.
  • Provide maximum customer service and professional communication to all associates and customers.

Required Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a complete understanding of the refrigerant cycle, and have a basic electrical knowledge. Must have the ability to install commercial HVAC systems, especially those that use hot water and chilled water that are fed from a Central Plant. Must be able to work from plans customary to the trades area, including the ability to understand electrical schematics as they pertain to HVAC systems. Technician must have superior skills in the operation of most basic power and hand tools common to the HVAC trade.
  • Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Installation — Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Operation Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Quality Control Analysis — Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or its equivalent
  • Courses in HVAC troubleshooting and installation
  • 5 years minimum experience at installing commercial HVAC systems and ducting
  • EPA Refrigerant handling certification
  • NATE certification a plus
  • OSHA certification a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is continuously required to use fine finger movements, read/comprehend, write, and reason and analyze. The associate is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, handle objects, push/pull, reach above shoulder level, stand, carry and lift loads over 50 pounds, perform calculations, and communicate orally. The associate is in frequent contact with chemicals/biological agents and water / other liquids. The noise level in the work environment is consistent with construction activities, and may be extreme at times.

 

Minimum physical requirements:

  • Be able to remove and replace a 24’ ladder on top of a service van.
  • Be able to place a 24’ ladder on the side of a building safely.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs above their heads.
  • Be able to pull 30 lbs up the side of a building 20’ with a rope.
  • Be able to kneel down and sit down on the floor for 30 minutes.
  • Be able to bend down and reach your ankles.
  • Be able to work in a confined space for minimum of one hour.
  • Be able to carry 20 lbs. on back and go up a 24’ ladder.
